Rathmichael Parish Fete: The Annual Rathmichael Parish Summer Fete will take place on Saturday September 9th in the grounds of Rathmichael National School, Stonebridge Road, Shankill,from 12Noon to 4pm and all are welcome.

St. Mochonog’s Parish Office opening times: Monday: 9am to 2pm, Tuesday: (by phone) 10am to 1pm, Wednesday: 10am to 2pm, Thursday (by phone) 10am to 1pm. Closed Friday.

Parish Churches Schedule of Masses: Enniskerry–St Mary’s: Saturday evening 6pm and also via parish webcam; Sunday 11am and also via parish webcam. Weekday Mass at Enniskerry is at 10.15am on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and also via parish webcam–lay led prayer service on Wednesday; and Saturday at 10.15 am and also available via parish webcam. Masses in Curtlestown and Kilmacanogue are on Sunday at 10am. Mass in Glencree is at 9am on the first Sunday each month.

Community Prayer Service: Our next Community Prayer Service will take place in St. Patrick’s Church of Ireland on Wednesday, September 6th at 10am.

Annual Blessing of Graves 2023: Takes place in Glencree this Sunday at 9.30am after 9am Mass.

Welcome Ministry Training: A Welcome Ministry Training course will start in September and I invite and encourage as many of you as possible to attend. It is a four week course covering ‘Welcoming in scripture’, ‘Assessing our parish Welcome’, ‘What has kept us Feeling welcomed in our community’, and Understanding the needs of others in our current culture. If you are interested, even slightly, please leave your name and details in the parish office (St. Mary’s or St. Mochonog’s) or text at 086-8182241.

Down Time Thursday: Why not pop into St Mary’s church for some quiet time for Down Time Thursday. This month it will be tomorrow (Thursday) from 7pm to 9pm. You can sit in silence with candlelight and gentle music. Take a few minutes for yourself and just “be”. Light a candle, say a prayer. Just sit if that’s what you need. See you there!

Community Builder: Our Meet and Greet Sundays are changing to the last Sunday of the month from September. Our next community builder will be on September 24th. Keep an eye out for your invitation.

Auction coming up and the date is Saturday October 14th: The collecting of items is going full steam ahead now. Here are some examples of what we will take–Glassware, silverware, candles, ornaments, vouchers for everything and anything, antiques, designer clothes (good as new) jewellery. Just about anything as long as it’s new or good as new. A big thank you to those who have already donated but we need lots more. History Society

Members and supporters of the Enniskerry History Society are asked to note that the following events will take place during the coming week–Tonight (Wednesday) Frank Whearity will present ‘The rise & fall of John Spicer’s model bakery & shop Balbriggan (1904-1999): an overview of parts 1 & 2’ at 8pm to the Balbriggan & District Historical Society in the Bracken Court Hotel, Balbriggan, Co. Dublin. All are welcome admission is €5; on Saturday Adrian Le Harivel will lead a ‘Donnybrook Walk’ at 2 pm which will highlight its past back to Saint Broc, the great Victorian expansion, and current building developments as one of Dublin’s oldest villages tries to keep its identity. Participants are asked to meet at the churchyard beside Donnybrook Garda Station, Donnybrook. All are welcome–Participants take part at their own risk. Please dress appropriately for the day’s weather conditions, wear suitable footwear, and bring refreshments

Enniskerry Library

Opening hours are Tuesday 10.30am to 12.30pm & 1.30pm to 4.30pm; Wednesday: 2pm to 4.30pm & 6pm to 8pm; Friday: 10.30am to 12.30pm & 1.30pm to 4.30pm; Saturday: 10am to 2.30pm. The library is closed on Mondays and Thursdays and on the Saturdays of Bank Holiday weekends. The library can be contacted at 01-2864339 or email: [email protected]. Online services including e-books, audio-books, digital magazines and newspapers and e-learning are available from the library website.

The library will be closed this Friday to facilitate staff training and any inconvenience to users is regretted.

‘Fairy Harp: Ceol Sí’ an hour long concert of harp music inspired by fairies with harpist Aisling Ennis will take place in Enniskerry Library on Friday October 6th at 11am. Contact the library for tickets.

Final Fernhill Walking Tour

As part of the dlr ‘Summer into Heritage’ programme of events, this year’s final free guided walking tour of Fernhill Gardens takes place this Sunday at 11.30am.

The well known gardens at Fernhill were laid out by the Darley family and for many years were opened to the public by the Walker family. This tour looks at the history of the Fernhill Gardens and explores some of the stories that live behind some of the various garden features.

The meeting point is the front of Fernhill House beside the coffee stand. Car parking is available at the main Fernhill car park. Please note that this tour, which is of 60 minutes duration, is limited to a maximum of 25 persons, and is not wheelchair accessible. No Booking required.

Barnaslingan & Carrickgollogan Walk

This Sunday as part of the dlr ‘Summer into Heritage’ programme of events, the Dublin Mountain Partnership Rangers will lead this easy paced walk in Coillte’s Barnaslingan and Carrickgollogan woods at 11.30am.

Along the route the Volunteer Rangers will tell the story of both woods taking in features wrought by the last glaciations of the Scalp, along with the industrial heritage landscape at Carrickgollogan and the positive changes the Dublin Mountains Makeover project is bringing to both woods. Booking is essential please contact: [email protected] quoting the walk date, your name, mobile phone number and in Case of Emergency (ICE) contact details or confirming that your ICE number is set up on your mobile phone.

Meet at Coillte’s Barnaslingan Wood car park at 11.30am. Walk Difficulty: moderate, to short, steep sections and tail surfaces which are a mix of gravel trails, rocky forest floor along with short sections of country road Walk length: 4.5km. Walk Duration: 1=C2=BD to 2 hours. No dogs are allowed on this walk. This is the final walk for this year.

LARAGH-GLENDALOUGH

Brockagh Market & Car Boot

Our next event is on Sunday, 10th September. Indoor and outdoor stalls with a variety of items for sale with plenty of bargains from gifts, clothes, plants, books, toys, aloe vera products, artwork, tools, household items etc. Open to the public from 10am to 3pm. Tea, coffee and food snacks are available.

The barrier will be locked from 6pm Saturday evening until 8am Sunday morning. You can contact us by phone 0404 45600 (Wed-Fri 9am to 2pm) or email [email protected]. David Cullen Cup Festival

The annual David Cullen Cup Day takes place on Saturday 2nd September from 1 o’clock onwards at the Laragh club grounds and we would like to invite the whole community down to see our juvenile stars display their skills on the day!

There will be something for everyone on the day as food will be on offer from the BBQ followed by games for all the family! There will also be a monster raffle on the day with some fantastic prizes and all the proceeds will go towards the development of our new club house. We hope to see you all on the day!

Clara Vale Summer Fair

The Clara Vale Summer Fair has been rescheduled for Sunday 3rd September at 1.30pm. We hope to see you all there!We have lots of fun events lined up such as hidden treasure, raffle, novelty acts, tea party, lucky dip, bottle stand. For more information call 087 929 2605, 087 689 5033.

Active Retirement

Our Active Retirement Group are returning Tuesday the 19th September after their summer break. They meet every Tuesday 10.45am to 12pm at the Brockagh Centre. So if you fancy a chat, a cuppa and some light exercise, dancing and music come along on a Tuesday morning.

Our monthly lunches are back from the 10th October and then every 2nd Tuesday of the month afterwards. We’d like to encourage anyone who loves arts & crafts or any other hobby, maybe you’ve learned new skills and would like the space to practice and share your skills with other members, come along and join us. We always welcome new members to join our group. The committee will be busy planning activities, workshops and day trips on their return.

Bright Stars Baby & Toddler

Why not come along to our baby and toddler group on Wednesday mornings at 10.30am. Classes are back 13th September.

Each week this group will provide a welcoming and lively space for parents and children to gather and grow. Our activities will include ‘messy play’, story and song, games (guest speakers), snacks, tidy-up and new equipment which will allow both you as the parent/carer and your child to meet friends, explore new things and learn. THERE was a great sense of shock and sadness in Dunlavin and surrounding areas over the death of Davy O’Neill so soon after the his beloved brother Tom who passed away unexpectedly in May.
