City Receives Generous Statue Donations from Shemwell Couple

Dr. Robert and Patty Shemwell, esteemed residents of Excelsior Springs, have once again demonstrated their unwavering commitment to their community. The couple, known for their active participation in local boards and committees over the years, have donated two statues to the city, further enhancing its unique charm.

One of the statues, a grand depiction of a large tree with children, will be prominently displayed in front of the Excelsior Springs Community Center. Citizen Chad Clevenger has meticulously constructed an elevated base for the statue, ensuring its protection and visibility. The decision to elevate the statue was made to discourage climbing.

The second statue, a bronze turtle, has been installed at Century Park by the Maintenance Division of the Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation Department. Fulfilling the Shemwells’ request, the turtle statue has been positioned to overlook the lake, providing a whimsical touch to the scenic view. Its location near the playground area ensures that it will be enjoyed by families and children visiting the park.

The Shemwells have a long history of service to the community of Excelsior Springs. Their involvement in organizations such as the Good Samaritan Center and Friends of the Wells has made a significant impact on the city. These statue donations are just one example of the generous contributions the couple has made over the years.
